
Tatya Tope (1814-14 April 1859) was an Indian general during the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857-58.
Biography[]
Ramchandra Panduranga was born in Yeola, Maharashtra, British India in 1814, and he came from a brahmin family. During the Sepoy Mutiny, he served under Nana Sahib and assumed the nom de guerre of "Tatya Tope" (both names meant "general" or "commanding officer") and served with the Gwalior contingent following the British reoccupation of Cawnpore. Tope recaptured Gwalior, only to be defeated at Sikar and captured. He was executed at Shivpuri in 1859.
