Tattaglia

The Tattaglia crime family was one of the "Five Families" of the American Mafia in New York, based in the Brooklyn and Little Italy neighborhoods of New York City. The Tattaglia family was founded during the 1920s by Philip Tattaglia, an immigrant from Sicily who became well-known as a pimp. The family controlled the most territory of any of the Five Families, but it was considered to be the weakest of the families, and it was nearly wiped out by the Corleone crime family during the Five Families War of 1946-1950. Philip Tattaglia and his sons Bruno Tattaglia and Johnny Tattaglia lost their lives during the conflict, and the family was taken over by Rico Tattaglia after the murder of his brother in 1955. The family continued to be influential in New York organized crime with Osvaldo Altobello as don during the 1960s and 1970s, although it was subordinate to the more-powerful Corleone family.
