Tatsuoki Saito

Tatsuoki Saito (1548-14 August 1573) was the daimyo of the Saito clan of Mino Province.

Biography[]

Tatsuoki Saito was the son of Yoshitatsu Saito and the grandson of Dosan Saito, and he was a nephew of Nobunaga Oda's wife Nohime. Unlike his father and grandfather, he was an incapable ruler, and he was a drunkard who did not care about governance. In 1564, he lost to his rival Mitsuhide Akechi, ending the Saito clan's significance. In 1567, Hanbei Takenaka seized power from Tatsuoki, and the Saito clan was finally destroyed by Nobunaga at the Battle of Mt. Inaba Castle that same year. Tatsuoki took part in several coalitions against Nobunaga, and he died in 1573.
