
Tarabai I (1675-1761) was the Queen of the Maratha Confederacy from 1700 to 1708. During her reign she fought the Mughal Empire in the Deccan Wars.
Biography[]
Tarabai was daughter of Hambirao Mohite, a general of the Maratha Confederacy, and was a rare example of a woman who personally commanded troops on the battlefield. She specialized in cavalry attacks against the Mughal Empire and fought the Deccan Wars until 1707, when Aurangzeb I died. In 1709 she was deposed by Shahuji I and lived to an old age.
