Tamaulipas is a state in northern Mexico, with its capital at Ciudad Victoria. The state borders the United States to the north and the states of Nuevo Leon to the west, Veracruz to the southeast, and San Luis Potosi to the southwest, and its name means "Place of the High Hills" in the Huastec Mayan language. Aside from Matamoros, Reynosa, Matamoros, Nuevo Laredo, and Tampico are major cities in the state of Tamaulipas, and the state had a population of 3,441,698 people in 2015.
