The Talpur dynasty was a Shia Muslim Baloch dynasty which ruled over Sindh from 1783 to 1843. In 1783, the Talpur Balochs seized power from the Kalhora dynasty at the Battle of Halani and became the new ruling dynasty of Sindh, although the emirs inefficiently governed the kingdom, leading to Sindh becoming an easy target for the British Empire to conquer. On 16 February 1843, the British general Charles James Napier invaded Sindh with 2,800 troops and 12 cannon, defeating the Sindhis at Miani and Hyderabad and annexing Sindh. Sindh was the first territorial possession of the East India Company in present-day Pakistan.
