Takumi Someya was born in Tokyo, Japan during the 1980s, and he became a member of the Tojo-kai yakuza clan at a young age. A member of the clan's younger generation like Chairman Daigo Dojima, he presented himself as a ruthless "modern" yakuza who had little regard for tradition and respectability, instead prioritizing profitability; he refused to get a back tattoo, since it would hinder his ability to do business with non-yakuza groups. Someya developed a relationship with Onomichi native Kiyomi Kasahara during her time as a hostess in Ginza, and the two married and had a daughter, Hiromi. However, Kiyomi left Someya because she could no longer deal with his violent lifestyle, which often left him coming home late with bruises or with blood on his suit. When Kiyomi attempted to leave Someya the first time, he had her kidnapped and beaten, but she later escaped from Someya's abuses. Someya kept custody of their young daughter, refusing to let Kiyomi see her if she didn't visit them in Tokyo, hoping that Kiyomi would take him back. Despite his abusive marriage, he took good care of his daughter, telling her stories about her mother and showing her pictures.

In 2015, Someya's boss Katsumi Sugai agreed to serve as Yomei Alliance heir Tsuneo Iwami's puppet ruler if Iwami could get him appointed as the Tojo Clan's acting chairman. Sugai had Someya start a devastating fire in Little Asia that would allow for the Saio Triad to move into Kabukicho; Chairman Dojima and his lieutenants Goro Majima and Taiga Saejima were arrested under suspicion of causing the fire, after which Sugai became acting chairman and Someya was made clan lieutenant and patriarch of his own subsidiary, the Someya-gumi. After the Tojo-kai turned on the Saio and only succeeded in killing their heir Jimmy Lo, Saio leader Big Lo initiated an all-out war with the Tojo in Kabukicho, causing the Tojo to struggle to hold back the Chinese encroachment on Tojo Clan turf.

In December 2016, after Haruka Sawamura was left in a coma following a hit-and-run, her adoptive father, the retired Fourth Chairman Kazuma Kiryu, came to Tokyo to investigate the scene of the accident. Someya's spies caught wind of Kiryu's presence, but one of them was interrogated by Kiryu, who found out that Someya was tracking him. Kiryu headed to the Tojo headquarters to confront Someya and Sugai as they had a meeting, and, while Someya greeted Kiryu and thanked him for his three years in prison for the clan's benefit, Kiryu was not swayed by Someya's flattery and instead demanded to know if Sugai and Someya were responsible for Haruka's injury. They denied any role in the attack, and, when Kiryu insisted that he needed no protection, Someya agreed that Kiryu's legend had died and that he was useless.

A week later, Someya had a chance encounter with Kiryu and Kiyomi during a visit to Mount Senkoji in Onomichi, as he was in town to swear an oath of brotherhood with Yomei captain Kanji Koshimizu. After Chairman Iwami asked Someya that he bring Kiryu to witness the oath between him and Koshimizu, Someya publicly kidnapped Kiyomi, forcing Kiryu and his Hirose-gumi friends to raid the Senkoji Overlook Hotel. There, Kiryu defeated Someya in a fistfight at his suite, only for Someya to reveal that Kiyomi was eating with Heizo and Tsuneo Iwami and their retainers. Iwami then asked Kiryu, Koshimizu, Someya, and Tsuneo to join him on his yacht, where he asked Kiryu to give his blessing for a Tojo-Yomei alliance. Just as Iwami anticipated, Kiryu refused because it would mean sidelining the imprisoned Daigo.

A few days later, one of Someya's spies within the Saio discovered that Kiryu had secured a meeting with Big Lo, which was to take place that night. Someya approached Kiryu and asked him for permission to accompany him to the meeting, ostensibly so that he could negotiate a truce with the Saio Triad. Someya had uneasy relations with Kiryu's friend Tsuyoshi Nagumo, who was also in love with Kiyomi, but the trio ultimately headed to the ruins of Shangri-La to meet with Big Lo, fighting past the gang occupying the building. There, Lo revealed the Saio's initial pact with Someya and Sugai to displace Daigo, which Kiryu had already come to suspect. Someya then forced Lo to confess his role in Haruka's hit-and-run, but Kiryu declined Someya's offer to work together, instead defeating him in a fight when Someya insisted that Kiryu could not stop his rise to power.

A week later, Someya traveled to Hiroshima to warn Kiryu that Tsuneo and Sugai intended to murder him and his friends in the Hirose-gumi to solidify their control over Tokyo and Hiroshima. When Kiryu asked why Someya would warn him, Someya said that he would rather not see the "Dragon of Dojima" be killed by such unworthy plotters, and he also expressed his desire to take control of the Tojo for himself and then challenge Kiryu in order to prove he was worthy of leading the clan.

However, Sugai learned of Someya's ambitions to supplant him and had Kiyomi kidnapped. Sugai then forced Someya to try to assassinate Kiryu at the Millennium Tower back in Tokyo, lest he have Koshimizu murder Kiyomi. During the raid, Kiryu defeated a katana-wielding Someya, causing Sugai to offer to spare Kiyomi if Kiryu killed Someya. Kiryu wavered, so Someya desperately committed hara-kiri to appease Tsuneo. However, Tsuneo still ordered Koshimizu to kill Kiyomi befroe departing, and a tearful Someya begged Kiryu and Nagumo to take care of his daughter before he succumbed to his wounds.
