Takeshi Kariya was a Japanese-American soldier who served in the US Army's 442nd Infantry Regiment on the Italian front of World War II. After the war, he remained loyal to the Republican Party even as most other nisei veterans played a pivotal role in the Democratic Party of Hawaii's 1954 revolution.
