Tajiks are an Iranian ethnic group in Central Asia, making up the majority of the population of Tajikistan and also a significant minority population group in Afghanistan. Tajiks speak varieties of Persian, and they are spread across the countries of Central Asia. 11,550,000 live in Afghanistan, 6,787,000 in Tajikistan, 1,420,000 in Uzbekistan, 220,000 in Pakistan, 201,000 in Russia, 52,000 in the United States, 47,500 in Kyrgyzstan, 15,870 in Canada, and 4,255 in Ukraine. The majority of the population is Muslim.
