Taheiji Koyama (1959 - 13 February 2020) was a Japanese philanthropist and former CICADA mercenary who was a member of the infamous SIGMA unit who committed atrocities during the Siege of Sarajevo in the Bosnian War. Koyama's great regret for his actions caused him to donate most of his blood money to charities supporting victims of war crimes, before using some of it to kill the other members of the former SIGMA unit. His last contract was on himself, with the entire team being eliminated by ICA agent 47; an incredibly ill Koyama was assassinated at the GAMA Private Hospital in Hokkaido, explaining his reasoning for putting an end to the entire SIGMA unit.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Taheiji Koyama was born in 1959 in Japan. His past was a mystery to most, but it is known that Koyama eventually joined the CICADA PMC and became the logistical specialist for their SIGMA unit. Koyama was known for his meticulous approach to every mission, accounting for every possible detail; this allowed operations to be performed flawlessly, and Koyama gained a reputation as a man who had a backup plan for everything.

The Sarajevo Six[]

SIGMA was deployed in 1992 to the Siege of Sarajevo to assist the Republika Srpska forces, where they committed many atrocities. During their deployment, SIGMA learned of six trucks transporting one and a half tons of gold out of Belgrade. These trucks were filled with refugees to protect the gold from airstrikes. At leader Scott Sarno's order, Koyama and the rest of the unit killed everyone aboard the trucks and called in helicopter gunships to eliminate anyone who was left.

Due to the unit's elusive nature, they were never identified in the post-war tribunals, and each member received millions of dollars from both war spoils and CICADA officials.

Post-war[]

Koyama retired from CICADA in 1998 to an estate in the mountains of the Nagano Prefecture, Honshu, with his share of $10,000,000. In the years after, Koyama began to regret his actions in Sarajevo, donating large amounts of money to charities and funds supporting victims of war. He cut contact with the rest of the unit, though kept tabs on their locations and statuses.

In 2019, he was diagnosed with an extremely rare genetic disorder known as Elyen's Syndrome, refusing to seek treatment and instead continued to support the various charities he funded. After the diagnosis, he decided to finally have justice be brought to him and the rest of the unit, contacting the ICA to put contracts out on Scott Sarno, Gary Lunn, Walter Menard, John Stubbs, Patrick Morgan and finally himself.

Death[]

Soon after Morgan's assassination on 28 January 2020, Koyama's condition severely worsened; he moved himself to the GAMA Private Hospital in Hokkaido to ensure that he would die to his assassin rather than his illness. 47, the man who eliminated the rest of the SIGMA Unit, confronted Koyama at the spa baths during his mission to kill Erich Soders and Yuki Yamazaki. Koyama told his story to 47, impressed with how he eliminated the rest of SIGMA. Afterward, he turned his back and allowed 47 to shove him onto the rocks below, causing severe head trauma and killing him.

Aftermath[]

As part of the contract, Koyama's extensive files detailing SIGMA's involvement in the Siege of Sarajevo were leaked to the public. CICADA immediately went into damage control, disavowing the unit and preventing further damage to the PMC's reputation.
