Tadanao Matsudaira

Tadanao Matsudaira (16 July 1595 – 5 October 1650), born Senchiyo Matsudaira, and later called Ippaku, was the daimyo of the Matsudaira and Fukui Domain.

Biography[]

The eldest son of Hideyasu Yuki, he inherited his father's domain in 1607 at the age of 12. He married his cousin Katsu, the daughter of Hidetada Tokugawa, and led Echizen Province troops in the Osaka Campaign after arriving as reinforcements in time to turn the tide of battle. He received no payment for his services and he tried to kill his wife in revenge in 1621, but killed a maid who took her place instead. In 1622 he was banished to Bungo Province and he became a Buddhist monk under the name "Ippaku".
