Tachibana Real Estate

Tachibana Real Estate was a Japanese extortion racket and semi-legitimate real estate agency which operated in Kabukicho, Tokyo during the 1980s. It was founded by Tetsu Tachibana and Jun Oda with help from Tojo-kai lieutenant Shintaro Kazama, and it bought up large portions of Kabukicho to prevent it from falling into the hands of the Dojima-gumi yakuza, which doubly hoped to redevelop the whole neighborhood (against the locals' and Tachibana's wishes) and push Kazama out of the family. Tachibana Real Estate used an army of hired homeless people to harass local business owners and tenants into selling their apartments or businesses to the real estate company to protect the land from the yakuza, and they also operated a powerful network of spies across the neighborhood. In 1988, Tachibana Real Estate played a major role in the "Empty Lot dispute" with the Dojima-gumi, partnering with Kazama's protege Kazuma Kiryu to try and prevent the Dojima-gumi from acquiring the lot.
