The Syrian National Coalition was a coalition of Syrian Opposition groups formed in Doha, Qatar in November 2012 during the Syrian Civil War. It was led by democracy activists as well as moderate imams, as it represented both the secular Free Syrian Army factions and the moderate Islamic Front factions. However, some Islamist factions declared that they did not support the SNC, saying that the Syrian opposition leaders outside of the country did not represent them. The Arab League and many Western countries recognized the Syrian National Coalition as the representative of the people of Syria instead of the Syrian Arab Republic of Bashar al-Assad.
