Syria Palaestina was a Roman province which existed from 135 AD to 390 AD, with Antioch serving as its capital. It was established as the merger of Roman Syria and Iudaea after the suppression of the Jewish Bar Kokhba revolt, severing the connection of the Jews to their historical homeland, and replacing their name with those of the Philistines. In 193 AD, Coele-Syria split from Syria Palaestina, and the province was split into four smaller provinces in 390 AD.
