Sussex is a historic county in South East England, bounded to the west by Hampshire, north by Surrey, northeast by Kent, and south by the English Channel. Sussex is presently divided into West Sussex and East Sussex, having been divided in 1974. Sussex is currently a geographical territory and cultural region, and it is among England's 39 historic counties.
