Susan Hayward (30 June 1917-14 March 1975) was an American actress and model. Born Edythe Marrenner in Brooklyn, New York in 1917, she worked as a fashion model before moving to Hollywood, California in 1937 and becoming an actress. During the 1940s and 1950s, she became a dramatic film actress, and she was nominated for five Academy Awards. She died of brain cancer in 1975, allegedly because of her work on the film The Conqueror, whose filming near a nuclear test site caused 91 crew members to develop cancer. She was a notable Hollywood Republican, having been a lifelong supporter of the party and a vocal supporter of Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1952.
