Suppo II of Spoleto (825-879) was Duke of Spoleto from 871 to 876, both succeeding and preceding Lambert I of Spoleto.
Biography[]
Suppo was born in 825, the cousin of Lambert I of Spoleto and a scion of the Supponidi; he married the sister of Eberhard of Friuli. He was related to Engelberga of Italy and Suppo II of Parma, and he served as an archminister and counselor for Emperor Louis II of Italy. He was the most powerful lay magnate of Italy under Louis, and he supported Carloman of Bavaria to succeed Louis. When Charles the Bald succeeded Louis, Suppo made peace with him, but Charles gave the Duchy of Spoleto to the previous duke, Lambert I of Spoleto, due to Suppo's treachery. Suppo died in 879.
