Sumatra

Sumatra is the largest island under the control of Indonesia, located in the west of the country. Sumatra's geography consists of rainforests with several exotic animals, but 50% of the rainforests were cut down and many of the native species became critically endangered. Other issues are the Free Aceh Movement's agitation for independence in Aceh and natural disasters such as the Boxing Day tsunami in 2004. The island has large cities at Medan, Palembang, Batam, Pekanbaru, Bandar Lampung, and others.
