Sulu

Sulu is an archipelago of the southern Philippines, with Jolo being the capital. The Sulu Archipelago was introduced to Islam in 1138 by missionaries, traders, scholars, and travelers from Arabia and Persia, and the Sultanate of Sulu existed from 1405 to 1915, being conquered by the United States during the Philippine-American War. On 10 March 1917, Sulu became an autonomous region of the Philippines, and it remains a major center of Islam in the southern Philippines. There is a population of 718,290 in the Sulu archipelago.
