Suleyman Husnu Pasa

Suleyman Husnu Pasa (1838-8 August 1892) was a Field Marshal of the Ottoman Empire during the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878.

Biography[]

Suleyman Husnu Pasha was born in Istanbul, Ottoman Empire in 1838, and he graduated from military school in 1859. He became a Major in 1867 and assisted in the suppression of a rebellion on Crete, after which he served as a military school commandant. In 1876, he was made a divisional general by Sultan Murad V. Husnu was the chief commander of Ottoman military operations in the Balkans during the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878, and he was blamed for the cruel treatment of Christian Slavs, which had caused Russia to invade the Ottoman Empire in the first place. Pasa was exiled to Baghdad, where he died in 1892.
