Suleiman II of Rum

Suleiman II of Rum (1166-1204) was Sultan of Rum from 1196 to 1204, succeeding Kaykhusraw I and preceding Kilij Arslan III.

Biography[]

Suleiman was born in 1166, a son of Kilij Arslan II. He overthrew his brother Kaykhusraw I in 1196 and usurped the Sultanate of Rum, and he went on to conquer Erzurum from the Byzantines in 1201 before being defeated by the Kingdom of Georgia at the 1203 Battle of Basian. He died in 1204.
