
Sulayman ibn Abu-al-Malik (674-22 September 717) was the Caliph of the Umayyad Caliphate from 715 to 716, succeeding al-Walid I and preceding Umar II.
Biography[]
Sulayman ibn Abu-al-Malik was born in 674, and was the son of Caliph Abu-al-Malik. Sulayman succeeded his older brother al-Walid I as Caliph of the Umayyad Caliphate on his death in 715, and reigned for just one year, and during his reign the Arabs laid siege to the Byzantine Empire's capital of Constantinople. Sulayman died while en route to Constantinople to oversee the siege.
