Sugimoto Mochizuki (1537-1605) was a general of the Uesugi clan.
Biography[]
Sugimoto Mochizuki was born in 1537 in Echigo Province, and he was a retainer of Sadazane Uesugi before serving under Kenshin Uesugi. Kenshin entrusted him as one of his generals, giving him immense responsibility within the Uesugi clan. Sugimoto was the commander of Kenshin's army at the Battle of Nakanojo in 1572, which was a defeat for the Uesugi, and his army was routed. Sugimoto went on to fight at the Battle of Tedorigawa in 1577. After the fall of the Uesugi clan, he surrendered to the Oda, and he became a vassal of Nobunaga Oda. He sided with the Western Army during the Sekigahara Campaign of 1600, and he fought at the Battle of Hasedo on the Uesugi side. He was defeated, and he retired to Echigo, where he died in 1605.
