SDS

Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) was a student activist movement in the United States that was one of the main representatives of the New Left. SDS was founded in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1960, and it was involved in protests against the Vietnam War, racism, and economic inequality in the USA. It dissolved in 1974, but it continued to influence other student movements even after its dissolution, with participatory democracy, direct action, radicalism, student power, shoestring budgets, and the SDS organizational structure being passed down to late student activist groups by the SDS. In 2006, the SDS was re-founded, and it expanded to 120 chapters.
