
Stuart Kenneally (1814-1847) was an Irish soldier in the Mexican-American War and member of the Saint Patrick's Battalion.
Biography[]
Kenneally was born in Ireland in 1814. In 1844, during the Great Famine, he left his home and emigrated to America. In New Orleans, he was drafted and sent to Texas. In 1846, he and another group of Catholic emigrant soldiers deserted and escaped to Mexico lead by sergeant John Riley. In Mexico, he was captured by Juan Cortina and his men. Kenneally among the other desertors joined the Mexican Army to fight for their freedom. Kenneally died in 1847 during the Battle of Churubusco.
