Steve Foley (January 21, 1915 – January 21, 2015) was a Captain in the US Army during World War II. Foley served in the 506th PIR, US 101st Airborne Division, commanding Baker Company.
Biography[]
Steve Foley enlisted in the elite paratroopers of the US Army in July 1942, and he trained at Camp Toccoa, Georgia. He was given command of Baker Company of the US 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, and Foley led his company into France during the 6 June 1944 D-Day assaults. After taking part in the Brecourt Manor Assault, Baker Company was transformed into a special operations unit, conducting two raids deep into Nazi Germany to rescue Major Gerald Ingram, a captured British SAS officer. In December 1944-January 1945, Baker Company fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and Foley oversaw the defense of Bastogne and the captures of Foy and Noville. His last known action was the capture of Recogne, a German bunker complex on the outskirts of Bastogne.
