
Stephan Schmeller (21 August 1779-16 January 1859) was a general of Brunswick during the Napoleonic Wars.
Biography[]
Stephan Schmeller was born in Wolfenbuttel, Germany, in 1779. He became a general of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel during the Napoleonic Wars, leading Brunswick Line Infantry under the British Army. Schmeller fought at the Battle of Waterloo in the battle of Hougoumont (18 June 1815), where his regiment of 1,200 men was reduced to 680 men in a bloody encounter with French infantry. He died in 1859 at the age of 80.
