Stanton J. Peelle

Stanton Judkins Peelle (11 February 1843-4 September 1928) was a member of the US House of Representatives (R-IN 7) from 4 March 1881 to 22 May 1884, succeeding Gilbert De La Matyr and preceding William E. English.

Biography[]

Stanton Judkins Peelle was born in Richmond, Indiana in 1843, and he served in the 8th Indiana Infantry Regiment during the American Civil War before becoming a lawyer in Winchester and Indianapolis. He served in the state house from 1878 to 1879, in the US House of Representatives from 1881 to 1884, as a Court of Claims judge from 1892 to 1905, and as that court's chief justice from 1905 to 1913. He died in Washington DC in 1928.
