Stanislaus Katzinsky (1878-1918) was an Imperial German Army lieutenant who served on the Western Front of World War I. He was killed in action in 1918.
Biography[]
Stanislaus Katzinsky was born in Silesia, Prussia in 1878 to a Polish family, and he joined the Imperial German Army during World War I and rose to the rank of Lieutenant, commanding the 2nd Company in a German frontline regiment in France. Katzinsky was a mentor to Paul Baumer and several other fresh recruits in the company in 1918, scavenging food and supplies for his comrades. He was wounded by shrapnel during the Hundred Days Offensive of late 1918, and, while being carried to a field hospital, a stray splinter from another explosion hit him in the back of the head and killed him.
