Stacey Abrams (9 December 1973-) was a member of the Georgia House of Representatives from 2007 to 2017 and the Democratic gubernatorial nominee in 2018.

Stacey Abrams was born in Madison, Wisconsin in 1973, and she was raised in Gulfport, Mississippi. Her parents moved the family to Atlanta, Georgia when they became Methodist ministers, and she served as a typist for a congressional candidate and as an EPA intern. During the 2000s, she worked as a tax attorney, and, in 2007, she was elected to the State House as a Democrat, serving until 2017. In 2018, she became the Democratic gubernatorial nominee, running against Secretary of State Brian Kemp. The election was marred by allegations of voter suppression, and Abrams narrowly lost the election with 48.8% of the vote to Kemp's 50.2%. Abrams refused to concede due to the voter suppression allegations, as her loss was by a narrow margin.
