Sri Irawan portrait

Sri Irawan (born 22 April 1974) is a Panauan politician and the former leader of the Ular Boys, a nationalist paramilitary group that sought to expel all foreigners and restore the Ulars to power as the sole inhabitants of the island.

Biography[]

Sri Irawan was born on 22 April 1974 in Kampang Sawah Hutan, Panau. He was a Hindu member of the Ulars, an indigenous people that once ruled over the whole island chain before the arrival of the Malays. Irawan became leader of the Ular Boys paramilitary group prior to 2010, inspiring many Ulars to join the rebellion against President Pandak Panay's government and to restore the islands to Ular control. Irawan's education at Princeton and his fine manners clashed somewhat with the brute methods of the Ular, but the organization reached new heights under his leadership. The rebels wanted to expel all foreigners and western culture from the island, and they adhered to strict nationalism. Irawan's own agenda was simply power, and many believed he only used his ethnicity to build false loyalty among the bloodthirsty warriors of the Ular Boys. Irawan's militia was key in overthrowing President Panay in 2010 in the Panauan Civil War, and he became a politician in the aftermath of the war, leading a nationalist party.
