The Springhill massacre occurred on 9 July 1972 when British Army snipers killed five civilians, including an Irish Catholic priest, in the Springhill area of Belfast, Northern Ireland. British snipers took up positions in a timber yard and fired on two cars as they entered Springhill, and the British claimed that they were fired upon by the IRA and were merely returning fire on the "terrorists". However, the incident ended with five innocents being killed and two injured, another infamous British Army massacre of Irish civilians during The Troubles.
