The Soviet 8th Army was a field army of the Soviet Red Army during World War II. Formed in October 1939 from the Novgorod Army Operational Group of the Leningrad Military District, the army attacked Finland during the Winter War and was sent to destroy thte Finnish troops in the area of Ladoga Karelia. The army fought at the Battle of Kollaa until the end of the war in 1940, after which it fought against the Germans in Lithuania during Operation Barbarossa and redeployed to the Leningrad front during the Continuation War. In 1944, the army pushed into German-occupied Estonia, and it ended the war on the Estonian coast.
