Southwark Cathedral

Southwark Cathedral is an Anglican church in Southwark, London. It was founded by the Anglo-Saxons in 606 AD as a nunnery and converted into a college of priests by Bishop Swithun of Winchester during the 9th century AD and into an Augustinian priory in 1106. The church was severely damaged in the Great Fire of 1212, but it was rebuilt during the thirteenth century. The creation of the diocese of Southwark in 1905 led to the church becoming a cathedral.
