Southern Court

The Southern Court was the name given to the four emperors of Go-Daigo's line that ruled Japan from Yoshino Province from 1338 to 1392 in opposition to the Ashikaga Shogunate's Northern Court. Go-Daigo, Go-Murakami, Chokei, and Go-Kameyama ruled the Southern Court until a 1392 peace treaty ensured that the Southern Court would succeed Emperor Go-Komatsu as emperor; however, the treaty was broken and the Southern Court scions would only be pretenders and not rule Japan again.
