South Wales Borderers

The South Wales Borderers, formerly the 24th Regiment of Foot, was a British Army line infantry regiment which was active from 1689 to 1969. Based at Brecon in South Wales, it fought in Ireland during the War of the Grand Alliance, in the War of the Spanish Succession, in the War of the Austrian Succession, in the Seven Years' War, in the American Revolutionary War, in the Egyptian Campaign of the French Revolutionary Wars, in the Napoleonic Wars, the Anglo-Nepalese War, the Second Anglo-Sikh War, the Indian Rebellion of 1857, the Anglo-Zulu War (during which it distinguished itself at the Battle of Rorke's Drift in 1879), in the Third Anglo-Burmese War, the Second Boer War, World War I, the Irish War of Independence, and World War II. In 1969, the regiment was amalgamated into the Royal Regiment of Wales.
