South Tyrol is an autonomous province in northern Italy, located on the borders with Switzerland and Austria. The region is unique in that 62.3% of the population speaks German, with only 23.4% of the population speaking Italian. South Tyrol has a level of self-government, and it is one of the wealthiest regions in Italy and Europe as a whole. In 2011, the region had a population of 511,750 people
