Sorbonne 2022

The Sorbonne is a university building in the Latin Quarter in Paris, France. The Sorbonne was founded in 1257 by King Louis IX of France's Robert de Sorbon, but it had fallen into decay after three centuries. In 1629, King Louis XIII of France's chief minister and the school's headmaster, Cardinal Richelieu, set about rebuilding the whole establishment and building a tomb for himself there. The college was suppressed during the French Revolution, but it was reopened by Napoleon I in 1808, and it finally closed in 1882. The university was later re-opened, and May 1968 saw the university's students take part in protests against the government. In 1970, the University of Paris was divided into thirteen universities, and the Sorbonne University opened in 2018.
