The Soma were a feudal Japanese samurai clan from Mutsu Province who claimed descent from Taira Masakado and were thus aligned with the Taira clan. Soma Joki was conquered by the Hiraizumi Fujiwara clan in 1177, and the Kubota Fujiwara counterattacked against their allies, beginning the Fujiwara Civil War.
