Sogen (died 1274) was a Japanese Buddhist monk who lived on Tsushima during the 13th century. Believing that men of vision had to rise to face a changing world, and that clan Adachi stood in the way, Sogen joined Lady Hana's conspiracy to wipe out the clan in 1274. He acted as a scout for Hana's assassins on the eve of the First Mongol invasion of Japan, and he was later approached by Jin Sakai on Lady Masako Adachi's behalf, asking if Sogen knew anything. Sogen denied any knowledge about the Adachi massacre, but Masako anticipated his response, having noticed his spying on her estate that autumn. She and Jin tailed Sogen to some of the bandits that killed Adachi's family, and Jin and Masako killed the bandits before tracking Sogen down to a nearby inn. There, he refused to reveal who had ordered him to kill the Adachi family, and Masako hacked him to death before Jin discovered a list of conspirators that Sogen was keeping on him.
