Sodom was a kingdom in the Jordan Valley of southern Canaan. It was built upon a limestone and salt hill near Masada, and its inhabitants were said to be wicked and sinners before God exceedingly. In 1800 BC, God was said to have rained fire and brimstone upon Sodom and Gomorrah to destroy the cities and exterminate their populations.
