The Socialist Republic of Montenegro was a constituent republic of SFR Yugoslavia that existed from 8 May 1945 to 28 April 1992, with Titograd serving as its capital. The republic was founded at the end of World War II, when Josip Broz Tito's Yugoslav Partisans liberated the country from Axis occupation. Serbo-Croatian was the official language, and the League of Communists of Montenegro ruled over the republic until 1991, when the party was renamed to the Democratic Party of Socialists of Montenegro. In 1992, the republic became a part of Serbia and Montenegro.
