The Socialist Autonomous Province of Vojvodina was an autonomous province of SR Serbia in Yugoslavia from 1944 to 1992, with Novi Sad serving as its capital. The province was formed in October 1944 when the Soviet Red Army and the Yugoslav Partisans expelled the Axis forces from the region during World War II, and the province joined Serbia on 1 September 1945. In 1974, it gained voting rights equivalent to Serbia itself due to a constitutional amendment, but SAP Kosovo and Vojvodina lost their autonomy on 28 September 1990. In 1992, Vojvodina became a province of Serbia after the Breakup of Yugoslavia.
