Liberalism

Social liberalism is a political ideology that believes that individual liberty requires a level of social justice. Like classical liberalism, social liberalism supports a market economy and the expansion of civil and political rights and liberties, but it also believes that the government is responsible for dealing with social issues such as the economy, poverty, health care, and education. The good of the community is seen as harmonious with the freedom of the individual in social liberalism, meaning that all groups of people should be extended the same rights in order to protect their freedom. In America, social liberals are progressive on issues such as abortion, same-sex marriage, and gun control, and are opposed to supporters of social conservatism.
