The Social Democrats is a social democratic political party in Denmark that was founded as a Marxist party in 1871. The party first entered the parliament in 1884, and it was the largest party in Denmark for 77 years. The party laid down the foundations for the modern welfare state of Denmark, and the party held 47/179 Folketing seats, 3/13 European Parliament seats, 67/205 regional government seats, and 773/2,444 seats in 2016.
