The Social Democratic Workers' Party of Germany (SDAP) was a socialist political party that existed in Prussia from 1869 to 1875. The party was founded by supporters of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels in Eisenach, Germany, and the party was closer to democratic socialism than communism. The party supported labor unions, as workers could prosper in the context of capitalism with the help of unions. The party was dissolved in 1875, but the modern Social Democratic Party of Germany is derived from the SDAP.
