Smbat IV of Armenia (1276-1311) was King of Armenian Cilicia from 1296 to 1298, succeeding Hethum II and preceding Constantine III.
Biography[]
Smbat Hetumian was born in 1276, a son of King Leo III of Armenia. In 1296, he and his brother Constantine seized the throne from their older brothers Hethum and Thoros, having Hethum blinded and Thoros strangled. Smbat then married a Mongol princess and received recognition from the Ilkhanate, only for Constantine to betray Smbat and seize the throne for himself in 1298. Smbat died in prison in 1311.
