Flag of Slovakia 2

The Slovak Republic was a puppet state of Nazi Germany which existed from 14 March 1939 to 4 April 1945. The republic was created in the city of Bratislava after the German invasion of Czechoslovakia, and it suffered some setbacks almost immediately after being formed. From 23 to 31 March 1939, Slovakia fought a border war with Hungary that resulted in the loss of a large strip of territory in the south of the country, and Slovakia was not recognized as an independent state by any of the Allied Powers, as it was clearly a puppet state of Hitler's Reich. From 1939 to 1944, Slovakia fought alongside Nazi Germany in World War II as a minor ally, taking part in the invasions of Poland and the Soviet Union. However, some Slovak generals launched the Slovak National Uprising on 29 August 1944, and the Wehrmacht brutally crushed the uprising and ended the Slovak independence movement. It would not be until 4 April 1945 that the Soviet Red Army liberated Bratislava from Axis control, and the Slovak republic became a part of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic.
