Siptah

Siptah (1207-1191 BC) was Pharaoh of Egypt from 1197 to 1191 BC, succeeding Seti II and preceding Twosret.

Biography[]

Siptah was a son of Merneptah and Shoteraja and a brother of Seti II, and he succeeded his half-brother as Pharaoh on the latter's death in 1197 BC. Assuming the name "Merneptah Siptah", Siptah was a child when he assumed the throne, and he was placed under the guidance of his stepmother Twosret. Chancellor Bay played a major role in installing Siptah in power, but Bay was banished from court for overreaching with his power, and Siptah had Bay executed in 1192 BC. Siptah died in 1191 BC and was succeeded by his stepmother.
