Sinon

Sinon was an Ithacan Greek warrior who played a major role in the Trojan Horse ruse which won the Trojan War for the Achaeans. In 1183 BC, he pretended to desert the Greeks and, as a Trojan captive, told King Priam that the giant wooden horse the Greeks had left behind was a gift to the gods to ensure their safe voyage home. While the Trojan soothsayer Laocoon attempted to warn Priam that the horse was part of a trap, Athena sent a sea monster to kill Laocoon, and Sinon argued that the gods had punished Laocoon for blaspheming against them. Priam then agreed to bring the horse within the city's walls, unaware that it contained a band of elite soldiers led by Odysseus. The Greeks, once behind the city walls, waited until the Trojan guards had gotten themselves drunk during a festival held to celebrate the horse's arrival, upon which they surprised and destroyed Troy, winning the war.
